Could Accountants Be Out of a Job?

By: Cameron Brosamer

In recent developments, machines are starting to be capable of performing accounting related jobs and do them just as well as trained humans. What makes the robots better? Well, robots don't get tired or experience the pain of a repetitive motion, in other words staring at a computer all day crunching numbers. These robots may be expensive to make, but once made, you don't need to pay them. They can work around the clock, not your normal 9-5 workday. Companies such as Ernst and Young said in 2016 they would invest in robots performing these accounting functions. The company invested over 400 million dollars into making these robots. Many believe these robots are changing the work-force for good, and this is the way the future would look. Could you imagine walking up to a machine and having all of your financial information on it along with thousands of other peoples? I sure cant, but the future looks shiny for those in accounting.
