AutoCAD

By: Cameron B.

I have recently began using a program called AutoCAD 2016, and it has really shown me so much about civil engineering. There are so many unique aspects of AutoCAD, including designs of many different object. Almost anything imaginable can be designed by AutoCAD, and this is why it is so important to civil engineers that work in design. Bridges, intersections and much more start off as designs on AutoCAD, and they are then brought to life by the construction engineers. Learning how to use AutoCAD will help me in so many ways as an engineer, and I am glad I have started to use it as a Freshman in college. Learning AutoCAD will also make me more marketable to companies that I have applied to for internships this summer, learning to use AutoCAD puts me ahead of other Freshman civil engineers who have not been exposed to anything like that before. Companies will be able to train me less and get me started right away working on projects and anything else that I will be asked to do. I feel that AutoCAD isn't just important for engineering; designers in home renovations use layout tools to design new room layouts and designs, and others use AutoCAD to design almost anything. AutoCAD has given me the ability to work on a computer designing things and the skills that I will need to be a successful civil engineer. I also believe that this will help me in my everyday life by easily being able to design something that is useful to myself or useful to the general public.
